Dear Constituent and Voter,
It has been great to see many of you over the last few weeks and also at the precinct caucuses. I appreciate your interest and knowledge regarding election integrity and thank you for your thoughtful questions and conversations.
In our discussions, there were a couple of questions that came up the most. For those of you whom I have not yet gotten a chance to meet, I have included a couple of the most frequently asked questions and my answers below.
Do you support audits?
Yes. In the private sector, it is standard practice for companies to conduct multiple audits throughout the year. Audits help businesses and managers understand what is and is not working well.
As a compliance specialist in the private sector, I participate in and oversee such audits.
I believe audits involving public systems, elected officials, and voter integrity should be standard practice, especially since these items are funded by you, the taxpayer.
Unfortunately, it appears that thorough and regularly scheduled audits have not been conducted at the County Clerk's office, and certain elected officials have pushed back, even taken personally, the simple request to implement such a practice.
As your County Clerk, my office will conduct regular, straightforward audits so we can determine what is and is not working well. These audits will provide the valid and accurate information we need to continuously improve our voting systems.
These routine and thorough audits will benefit all of Salt Lake County.
