Advanced Schedules for Poll Watching
Poll watching is how citizens and campaign volunteers of all political persuasions ensure that election laws are being followed. Poll watching is an essential tool to help spot irregularities. GOUD will welcome citizens' involvement in Salt Lake County poll watching.
At least two weeks before processing ballots, GOUD will post a detailed “Poll Watch” schedule. The schedule will inform the public about the timing of various steps required in the vote counting process:
- tearing off tabs on envelopes
- signature verification
- checking for ballot duplication
- evaluation of questionable ballots, etc..
Knowing when specific activities will occur will allow citizens and campaign volunteers to plan ahead to participate in specific poll watching activities. This allows poll watchers advance notice to conveniently schedule time off from their jobs, family, etc.
